The Colorado legislature is discussing a bill that would require pregnant women in the state to be tested for HIV. They would then be referred for treatment that would all but prevent them from passing the infection on to their babies. Republican Senator Dave Schultheis is opposed to the bill, and offered up this by way of explanation:
"What I'm hoping is that yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that. The family will see the negative consequences of that promiscuity and it may make a number of people over the coming years ... begin to realize that there are negative consequences and maybe they should adjust their behavior."
Now mind you, this piece of shit is also on the record as being anti-abortion (pro life). Meaning the life of an unborn fetus is precious and needs to be protected, (presumably) providing it is the right fetus, belonging to a "good" person, that displays "acceptable" behavior.
But beyond all that, what "Christian" advocates that the result of any "choices" or "unacceptable behavior" (to whom?) would be that an innocent baby be born and consigned to a life of HIV infection, or worse, full-blown AIDS as a punishment to the mother?
Fortunately, this hateful clown cast the only "no" vote and the measure passed 32-1, and now moves on to the Colorado House.
