At approximately 10 pm on 7/18/05 a woman appeared at the club door with quite a bit of blood on her face and hands. She claimed she had been hit with a bottle and lost a tooth. It was obvious she had and also suffered a cut lip. Several staffers and door employees came to her aid, trying to stop the bleeding with cloth and paper napkins. I attempted to locate more security to find the perpetrator and have her removed. I attempted to calm the woman and get some basic information from her. She repeatedly claimed to have been hit by a bottle and repeatedly asked if we were going to pay for her medical attention. While this was going on M--- went outside to request help from the NYPD. A woman who our door staff and the victim recognized as the perpetrator was brought out of the club in to the lobby. She claimed no knowledge of the incident and was extremely agitated and argumentative. By then the police were on the scene. They asked to speak to the victim upstairs. Shortly after, they returned to the downstairs lobby and cuffed the "attacker" and removed her from the club. Later, after speaking to our host staff, specifically J---, I ascertained that the incident began when he discovered the "attacker" smoking marijauna inside the club and asked her to stop. She responded extremely negatively and when he asked her to leave, she responded by physically assaulting him. At no time did he try to respond except defensively. This led to her throwing something across the room, striking the injured woman. We later determined it to be a votive candle holder. The injured woman was taken away for medical attention by ambulance. The "attacker" was brought to the precinct.
Despite the clinical detachment I use to write the incident reports, the poor woman was a bloody mess. She lost two teeth and a chunk of her lip was just gone. She will require cosmetic surgery as well as dental reconstruction. I had to comfort my staff after the fact. They were physically assaulted and covered in blood. As much as you know that people are capable of horrible behavior, it can still be shocking what they can come to do to each other.
